I Have a Dream

Family Night
Those that attended the fun last night, first dined on chili and hot dogs, then joined in the engaging story telling antics of Julie Bice.

Career Day
Thank you so much for your full participation in Career Day!  The kindergarten class earned an ice cream party from Mrs. Williamson because we had 100% participation!  I think it was much more fun for the students to write about what they want to be while wearing their costumes.

I dream of being a grocery checker.

I dream of being a dirt bike driver.

I dream of being a cop.

I dream of being a dancer.

I dream of being an army boss.

I dream of being a babysitter.

I dream of being an artist.

I dream of being an army boss.

I dream of being president of the United States.

100 Cookies
Yesterday we baked 100 chocolate chip cookies and shared them with the rest of the school for the 100th day.

Today we made Derdnuh; The 100th Day Snack.  Thank you for ALL of your contributions and thank you for using Sign Up Genuis which made organizing this activity so easy.

Seventh and Eighth grade, under the direction of  Mrs. Obert, planned a 100th day activity for our classroom.  First they brought down cupcakes cut to look like "100."  This was a great visual association for kindergarten to remember 100.  Then they took turns counting decades to 100.

Next they lit 100 candles!

Finally, we ate the cupcakes together.

Future Engineers

"There's a penny in here!" Harrison said while shaking an old phone in the dramatic play center on Monday. So, we set out to explore what exactly was inside that old phone.  Getting it open was the first obstacle.  I only had a hammer and large screwdriver and had to get pretty rough with the old thing.  Inside we found a circuit board, big magnet and a bunch of other things we had no idea what they were.  Today I brought smaller screwdrivers and the students were quite engaged as they continued to dismantle the device.  Hmmm…I wonder how well they will do at putting it back together.

Basic Skill Building Buddies

Writing
As part of their service projects in Religion class, Seventh and Eighth grades will be coming to the Kindergarten classroom once a week to help us build skills and relationships.  Students will rotate through five stations that will help build math, literacy and social skills.

Martin Luther King Day

What do you dream of being when you grow up?

Please discuss with your child what he/she might like
to be when he/she grows up and wear a costume
that would represent that profession.

Catholic Schools Week - Thursday, January 30th

As part of our study of Martin Luther King Jr.  the students will be writing about what they dream of being when they grow up.  During Catholic School Week, students will be having a school-wide career day where they can dress up as the profession they want to be.  I would like to combine these two activities as part of this unit study for kindergarten.

St. Mary Book Fair

Book Fair

St. Mary will be having their annual Scholastic Book Fair during Catholic Schools Week, January 27-31.  There will be lots of wonderful books on display for your viewing during the prior weekend and throughout the week. A portion of the proceeds from these sales will provide new books for the school library and classrooms.

Because of the book fair and the recent pocket book draining effects of Christmas, I will not be sending home a Scholastic Reading Club flier until March.  I will set up the online ordering for those of you that would like to take a look at what is available to order online.
